How to List Your Temporary Work Experience on Your Resume

You’ve been working temporary jobs all over Houston, TX and have extensive experience, as a result. Now, though, you’re ready for a full-time opportunity. The question is: how do you list all those short-term positions on your resume without looking like a job hopper and a potential flight risk?

Murray Resources has the answers you need. To help you make the best impression possible, here’s what to do:

Call it out.

When you’re listing your temporary jobs on your resume, don’t make it hard for a hiring manager to figure out. Call it what it is so they don’t think you were fired or quit only after a few short months. Here’s an example:

ABC Corporation, Houston, TX

Temporary Front Desk Receptionist, June 2019 – August 2019

  • Greeted customers and vendors…
  • Managed phone calls…

Be consistent.

When it comes to the label you choose, be consistent with it throughout your resume. If, for example, you list one job as “temporary,” don’t list another as “temp” or “contract.” Find one term and stick with it to cut down on confusion.

Group jobs.

If you worked with a temporary employment agency in Houston for all your positions, then you can also list that company and you assignments with them. For instance:

XYZ Staffing

Hired by XYZ Staffing to serve as a temporary front desk receptionist for several of their manufacturing clients throughout the Houston area. These assignments included:

The Smith Company, Houston, TX

June 2019 – August 2019

  • Greeted customers and vendors…
  • Managed phone calls…

The Jones Firm, Houston, TX

January 2019 – May 2019

  • Performed a range of secretarial duties, such as…
  • Helped to maintain records for…

The Martin Group, Houston, TX

September 2018 – December 2018

  • Answered approximately 50 phone calls per day…
  • Managed the schedules of three company executives, helping them to…

Don’t forget to include facts and figures.

While it’s important to showcase your range of skills, don’t forget to back them up with specific accomplishments, including facts and figures. These will better promote your experience, as well as stand out to a hiring manager.
