Fast-growing staffing firm cites industrial growth as fuel for expansion

Houston Business Journal

Houston-based Murray Resources, a staffing company that’s been in Memorial City for nearly 30 years, is expanding throughout Houston in-part due to the growth of the city’s industrial market.

The company, which currently occupies roughly 4,500 square feet at One Memorial City Plaza, opened a second office in just over 2,000 square feet at 9601 Jones Road in Jersey Village, said Keith Wolf, managing director of Murray Resources. Seattle-based Colliers International represented Murray Resources in its lease. The office opened Nov. 14. Wolf cited the growth of the company’s light industrial division, as well as general economic growth throughout the north Houston area, as fueling Murray Resources’ expansion.

“We have a sense of where the clients are and where the candidate pools are,” Wolf said. “Being in the northwest area … we want to be where the companies and candidates are.”

Murray Resources has three divisions: professional, technical and light industrial. The company’s light industrial division – which staffs employees who will work as welders or in shipping, receiving or packing – was created in September to accommodate for the growth in industrial the company has seen. The company has catered to light industrial companies prior to the creation of the division, Wolf said, but recently hired on separate recruiters to focus solely on those jobs.

Despite the oil slump, 2016 has been a growth year for Murray Resources. The 25-person company hired around six of its employees this year alone, Wolf said. Murray Resources transferred some employees to the Jersey Village location but will also be hiring at that office, too.

“There’s talent we’ve brought on to our internal business that we may not have been able to get in another market,” Wolf said. “We’re using this as an opportunity to expand.”

Wolf said he expects the company’s revenue to top 2015’s revenue by 10 percent to 20 percent, he said. Revenue figures weren’t disclosed.

Murray Resources is also looking to open another office in the Houston area in the near-term, Wolf said, as well as acquire another Houston-area staffing firm. The company is eyeing outer Loop areas such as Katy, The Woodlands and Sugar Land as areas for possible expansion.
