Mechanical engineers are in high demand in numerous industries. However, job seekers should note that many companies are listing open mechanical engineering positions under different titles.

For example, Chevron has numerous positions open for mechanical engineers. These positions are listed on its website under subsea engineer, facilities engineer, senior facilities engineer, design engineer, project engineer, project manager, technical services engineer – mechanical, subsea senior umbilical engineer, subsea senior flexible pipe engineer, pipeline integrity engineer, maintenance planning and execution turbine engineer, machinery reliability engineer and junior associate technologist.

Keith Wolf, managing director, Murray Resources, a Houston recruiting firm and staffing agency, also noted a number of open positions open with different titles.

“We’re seeing strong demand for mechanical engineers, particularly within the manufacturing and oil and gas industries. We’re seeing a wide range of design, technical sales, project management and manufacturing manager roles that are seeking skilled mechanical engineers,” Wolf said.
