What Makes a Good Workplace? What Makes a Bad One?

The Houston Chronicle recently published its annual report on the best places to work in Houston. 150 companies made the ‘Houston Chronicle Top Workplaces’ list based on employee surveys, where workers were asked to rate areas including company leadership, opportunities for advancement and their work/life balance. If you were asked to rate your workplace, what would you say? What areas would you rave about? And what areas would you check off as ‘needs improvement’? In other words, what do you think makes for a good workplace in Houston?

We talk with the Chronicle’s Business Editor about the newspaper’s survey. We’ll also speak with the head of a Houston-based staffing firm and an HR director in the oil and gas industry.
